Painting the Rosary is the name of this project and will be a collection of works depicting the events of the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries (15-18 finished works in all). This is a multi-year project that will also involve the writings on this site and works of fiction in support of this effort.
I have had a long, rewarding career in the graphic arts (from wax-rollers to mobile app design) but it is time to put that all down and focus on what I call, “lasting work.” The more I examine my art at this stage of my life, the more I am drawn to sacred imagery and the stories behind the events we meditate on represented in a simple strand of beads. Meditations on the Rosary focus the mind into the deeper layers of the life of Christ. They help us to find that place where those stories and events intersect with our own lives. In fact, they bind us inseparably and completely to the infinite.
This is daunting as I am not sure I am equal to this task. I am, as they say, “late to the party.” But I have a few ideas and observations and I find some comfort in the fact that the best instruments for a task do not always appear so at first.
I expect this body of work to begin slowly as I work out logistics and put my thoughts and meditations in order. As I began to put this together it became clear to me that the work was only the result of the exploration and that it might be meaningful to share the thoughts and observations of the work as well. Hopefully, this site will serve as a vehicle for that.
I hope you find the work here interesting and that you visit often, and if this inspires you to your own journeys and meditations, all the better.
